Get out of the sun
you are too dark
would you tell this to a flower
that is reaching for the sky?
fade dreamy petals into autumnal guilt,
wilt trying wonders?
there are more pressing shadows
than hues on a face,
or bronzed leaves
a dyed stem is opulent
hiding the ancestors before it
but underneath the precious silk of
fronds and sepal
lay a fine bastille of roots
claiming its place in the world
let the golden rays bathe its body
to warm a spot for the crown
